not quite so doomed ...
The Letter is written - once I got started the words came, it was just starting that was hard. I think it's OK and Mr thinks it's OK too. So tomorrow I will post it and we'll see what happens. I texted the friend S is staying with to get her address, and she says S is still angry, but she (friend) has tried to get her to communicate with us. Hopefully the letter will achieve something, if only to let her know we still care, even if she can't forgive us just yet. Thank you to everyone who left such caring and supportive comments, you really helped.
