Mr and Mrs Rev versus the self-assembly furniture -

People 1 - Furniture 2

It's a shoe rack for goodness sake! That's all! So why did it take two of us nearly three hours to put it together? Fairly proud of myself that I only had one tantrum though :-)

It came in tiny pieces - 4 long side bits, 10 shelf support bits, and 15 slats to make the shelves. Oh, and 70 screws, thankfully all the same size. But it's up now, and our porch smells of fresh pine, which is nice.

We decided to treat ourselves after that and had jacket potato and salad at the Harvester, then walked into town and had a pint of ale and a banana waffle at Wetherspoons. Just waiting for the washing machine to finish now and I shall be going to bed.

...and if anyone can explain to me how to turn that Argos url into a nice tag type thing I would be tres grateful :-)
(ETA - I seem to have managed it! Yay me!)

Three hours?!?! Eek!! I'm so thankful IKEA furniture is totally me-proof - all dowels and screws that go in with allen keys and pre-cut holes... *strokes Billy bookcases fondly*

Sounds a yummy treat! I live across the way from a Harvester, and I particularly like their EarlyBird deals (mixed meat platter...leg of chicken and Chinese ribs, yuuum). My Mum likes the fact that the meals are healthy, too (salad bar, having a jacket instead of chips option).

And now I@m going to stop rambling..... *eyeroll*

*Is proud*

I have that and I put it together all by myself after my bf (at the time) had a strop and chucked some of the bits across the room when he couldn't work out how to do it himself. It's been a year and it's not fallen apart yet...

Hi Nina! I'm friending you :D

Also, I myself have made up that exact same set of shelves and three hours was v. good going! Last year myself and my flatmate made it up; it took us easily double your effort and at the end we had about 9 'spare' screws ... o.o

Most impressive construction work!
Is it doing the job of making the shoes tidier though, that's the question?!

;P

That is very fine I admit - but I think I would be tempted to keep books on it rather than shoes ;)

[identity profile] squirrela.livejournal.com 2005-09-06 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
It might be a shoe rack, but it's a big, shelf like construction so I think 3 hours isn't bad. *Agrees with Liz about keeping books on it* I never have enough book shelves

When we made it, it was for keeping food on, cos of our teeny titchy kitchen...

<3 IKEA - it's me-proof as well *has many Billy bookcases and 2 Poang chairs*

[identity profile] mrsrev.livejournal.com 2005-09-06 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well done! That gives me hope ...
and <3 <3 the icon btw!

yes, it's much better. We had a metal one before - the rails were slippery and too far apart for my size 4½s, the shoes spent more time on the floor than on the rack. this one seems to be working ...

Hi back! is yours still standing?

[identity profile] bluebellbicycle.livejournal.com 2005-09-06 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, still standing, or at least it was when I moved out, a year after setting it up. :)

flat pack assembly! joy! i adore building flat pack stuff. i kind of view it as a huge 3d jigsaw puzzle, whack some music on, and entertain myself.

i do also gain pleasure from looking at maps, just cause they're ace, so you're well within your rights to think me extremely weird.

[identity profile] mrsrev.livejournal.com 2005-09-06 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Not weird at all, I love looking at maps - I've been to loads of places on paper that I've never been to in RL!

aren't they great? i think one of the reasons that the boy and i are together is that, at a mutual friend's birthday party, we spent about three quarters of an hour discussing The Aceness of Maps, and everyone else was quite scared. i reckon at that point, he figured he'd not find anyone else daft enough to indulge him in such conversations. i know i certainly thought that!

I thought you might appreciate that icon. *g*
